According to the classification of light sources, automotive headlamps on the market can roughly be divided into four types: halogen lamps, xenon lamps, LED lamps, and laser lamps. Initially, kerosene lamps, acetylene lamps, and incandescent bulbs were used. Since the development of LED automotive headlights in the late 1990s—thanks to their superior energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, and higher brightness—even though LEDs have become widely adopted in high-end brand models—the market for more affordable models remains relatively small, yet the long-term market prospects are promising.
According to data from the "2018 Industry Market Research Report on LED Automotive Lighting" by OFweek Industry Research Institute, the overall penetration rate of LED-based automotive lighting in my country remains low, but LED adoption is growing steadily year after year. Meanwhile, the level of LED penetration varies significantly across different components of automotive lamps.
From a revenue perspective, revenue from the external LED market is significantly higher than that from the domestic LED market, and the share of the external market is expected to grow in the future. The main reason for this is that the current market penetration rate of domestic LED lighting is already very high, while price declines are outpacing growth rates. Meanwhile, external LED applications—such as fog lights, high-beam and low-beam headlights, and others—continue to maintain much stronger growth momentum.
